Project Overview

This project involved transforming a residential front patio, entry stairs, and adjacent walkway using a Mountain Fog decorative flake system over a gray primer base coat.

The homeowner wanted a durable and attractive exterior surface that would improve the appearance of the home's entrance while providing long-term performance against daily foot traffic and outdoor exposure.

Existing Conditions

The concrete was originally installed in the 1980s and showed significant signs of age and wear. Years of exposure had resulted in numerous salt chips and surface imperfections throughout the patio and surrounding areas.

Proper surface preparation was critical to ensure the coating system would achieve the best possible adhesion and appearance.

Going Beyond the Original Scope

While the original project focused on the patio and stair area, there was sufficient material available to coat a small section of the front walkway as well.

Rather than leaving the area unfinished, the walkway was included as part of the project to create a more seamless appearance throughout the entrance of the home. The additional area required minimal material while significantly improving the overall finished presentation.

Installation Process

Surface Preparation

The existing concrete surface was mechanically prepared to remove contaminants and create the profile necessary for proper coating adhesion.

Repairs

Areas affected by salt damage and surface deterioration were addressed prior to coating installation.

Primer Application

A gray primer coat was applied to create a uniform foundation for the decorative flake system.

Flake Broadcast

Mountain Fog decorative flakes were fully broadcast into the coating system to create a durable, textured, and visually appealing finish.

Final Finish

A protective clear coat was applied to lock in the flake system and provide long-term durability.

Finished Results

The completed project transformed an aging entrance into a clean, modern, and durable surface that enhances the curb appeal of the home while providing a long-lasting decorative finish.

The Mountain Fog flake blend paired with the gray primer created a balanced appearance that complements the home's exterior while helping conceal the character and imperfections often found in older concrete.
